This an amazing overview on regulatory compliance and reform for these communities.

The real question is how seriously the elected officials will consider the impact on their communities. I think if more constituents knew the potential hazards involved in all this they would not be happy. So thank you Collin for raising our awareness to these concerns!

Thank you! Looking at the output, it was a 4-1 vote in favor of moving forward, so unfortunately, it doesn't appear that the elected officials are really listening to their communities. I watched as much of the MCBOS meeting as I could, and there were a lot of folks, a lot of comments, and a lot of pushback, but they pushed it forward anyway.

I'm not sure how we change the tide at the moment outside of elections, but I wish I could crack the code on how to get them to really listen, learn, and be open that opposition isn't just for opposition's sake, but grounded in real, tangible concerns that aren't speculation, it's really pretty well established science with a lot of examples of it happening. Believing that this instance will somehow be different because we want it to be just doesn't work. Physics doesn't care how people feel about it.

You know Colin I think it is a lofty thought and aspiration to convey and convince people in the community or the elected representatives even to take the time to consider the actual facts BUT politics reigns supreme in our culture and that doesn’t change easily.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to look at kickbacks and bribery and of course campaign contributions, lobbying efforts by practically every lawyer and lawmaker out there. Thats just politics and it runs very deep on these issues I believe. That is not to be a reason for giving up though, someday we can say ‘I told you so’ when the next crisis erupts out of all of this. Unfortunately we are now living in a world where crises are the only way any kind of action seems to happen. The general narrative in America anyway, is that we have to beat China with AI - hence the need for data collection and at any cost and we need to do it FAST and there is a lot of money behind it too. A certain recipe for corruption!

For sure. I'm not giving up. The good news is that facts, science, and objective analysis will ultimately carry the day. I just hate that rather than being open, receptive, and willing to do what is best, while engaging the process fairly, it is dominated by hidden actors, financial interests, and the benefit of the few over the many.

I suppose, on some level, I am a bit naive in the sense that I believe that, at the end of the day, government should work for regular people rather than the powerful. I hold out hope that someday it will, and if I can do my part to further that, I certainly will.

I for one am glad to see you’re not giving up on any of this. I find most of the Marana residents I encounter believe the corruption is so widespread in relation to the local town governance, not to mention the federal government that it can’t be turned by the average constituaancy or even elections any longer. I don’t think that way at all, and I do believe that honest elections can make a difference if people are well informed and make an effort to learn so I open my mouth and talk abouit these issues at every opportunity. It has changed some peoples attitudes sometimes I think and more and more people are getting it. The people here will bitch about thier electric rates but have no idea what the Az Coroprate Commision, an elected office even does. Maybe people just like to complain a lot but when they are open to listening they can start to think about and realise they better take some personal responsibility to make a differance or we are going to have our freedoms that we enjoy diminished. I certainly get it that a lot of people think the architecture that has been created is too big and spread out for Individual resistance to even register any longer but the captured conflicted insiders, hidden actors, financial interests, etc. can be called out eventually but it takes some effort and again I appreciate what you are doing. I try to do my small part by reaserching the down & dirty truth we are being conditioned to not pay attention to. We have the tools, at least we still do to research and learn what is behind some of this stuff going on. No you are not naive in your efforts at all I think, it is not unusual to believe that government should work for regular people after all it is what our country was founded on.
