The federal government is planning to let a rule known as the Federal Data Center Enhancement Act (FDCEA), regulating federal data center operations will sunset in September with no replacement. This signals that the Trump administration is set to take an even more hands-off approach to data center oversight and regulation. A stop in the construction of mega data centers needs to happen before it’s too late since the impact on air, water, environment and the accountability of these companies is unknown.

This is a very good article I think on really starting to get to the heart of the essence of concern that most people have about technology, AI and the accelerating capitalistic boom surrounding this whole issue. Thank you.

On 5-25-26 Elon Musk wrote on X “ We are on the event horizon of the singularity,“ now if one dissects the hidden words in trying to understand what he means by such a statement I think we shall find aside from the movie reference and physics that “event horizon “ basically means a ‘point of no return’ and “singularity” refers to where artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence. This is what the neonerd arch technocrats are actually saying and actively writing about, it’s all public information. So humanity is what’s really at stake here. In a data surveillance and digital panopticon how far are we ‘humanity’ willing to go? Do we want to live in an algorithmocracy or algoracy , rule by algorithm and ‘probability’ making all our future decisions by computer generated AI constraining guides replacing human decision making. The policy making regarding this is particularly important now as Colin Mellars has indicated especially where algorithmic governance is potentially critical.

As for the Marana data center concerns my biggest issues ;

1. The way the Marana mayor and city government has appeared to stifle the community (constituents) from any direct involvement in the decision making processes. (Referendum, etc.etc.)

2. Very little or no concern of the very real power and water supply issues and potential alternatives or to the community based technical issues already experienced in other communities in the country. Colin, you have made great reference to all of this in your Substack ‘Sonoran Think Tank.’

3. Living in the Sonoran Desert is a fascinating and unique experience and attention to the aesthetics of the environment are important to us.

The current “blitzkrieg of venture capitalism” doesn’t appear to have much room for aesthetics in their plans. It’s boom or bust in our history in America and obviously right now the bet is on BOOM! Is it really worth sticking all of our necks out so far for a supposedly good bet? If somehow all of this doesn’t end well who’s going to end up the scapegoat ? Certainly not the arch technocrats and not the venture capitalists…
